The European Space Agency (ESA) provides Europe’s gateway to space. ESA is an intergovernmental organisation, created in 1975, with the mission to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space delivers benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.

ESA’s Earth Observation Programme (EOP) provides world leading science, technology and applications to drive the critical decisions that address global environmental challenges. Through its Climate Change Initiative (CCI), ESA generates the satellite data records that underpin the climate knowledge base. These records not only aid Member States’ progress towards UNFCCC Paris Agreement goals, but also provide valuable support to both climate modelling communities and operational climate services.

Through its Directorate of Commercialisation, Industry and Competitiveness (CIC), ESA facilitates new commercialisation opportunities in European space, increasing the competitiveness of Europe’s space economy and bringing a host of socioeconomic benefits to its citizens.

ESA Space Solutions is a key component of the Directorate, with a mission to support entrepreneurs in the development of business using satellite applications and space technology. Through our Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) programme, we provide funding and technological expertise to companies to support the development of sustainable services utilising space assets.
