After leaving Oxford in 1993 with an MA in Physics, Doug joined the Defence Research Agency (QinetiQ/Dstl) to work on space surveillance and military satcom. In 2001, Doug moved to SSTL where he developed several new spacecraft including Europe’s first Galileo demonstrator; ran the Science business; and delivered the UK’s first cubesat. In 2015, Doug co-founded In-Space Missions to deliver novel space enabled services and to make Space more accessible and inclusive. In-Space was acquired by BAE Systems in 2021. Doug left BAE Systems in March 2025 and is the current Chair of UKspace – the UK’s space trade association.
