Axiom Space is launching its first two Orbital Data Center (ODC) nodes to low-Earth orbit (LEO) by the end of this year.
These nodes will lay the foundation for space-based cloud computing, providing scalable data storage, processing, and AI/ML solutions to satellites and spacecraft in Earth’s orbit. ODCs will reduce reliance on Earth-based systems, enhance the security of mesh networks, and support real-time operations with lower latency and higher availability.
ODCs will give the UK a competitive edge in the space economy by offering control over sensitive data and enhancing capabilities across sectors like defence, AI, energy, finance, and telecommunications. These platforms will support the UK’s strategic and next-generation commercial computing needs, while positioning the UK as a leader in space infrastructure.
